These Are a Few of My Favorite Teas
Singers are known for their love of tea. Since too much caffeine is a singer no-no, we singers love to celebrate the alternatives. And not all teas are made alike. Some black tea does have just as much caffeine as some coffee. So I wanted to highlight my favorite teas for singing.
Red Rooibos - This tea comes from a specific red bush that grows in South Africa. It is naturally caffeine-free and contains a higher level of antioxidants than most other teas. It has a sweet, light flavor that makes it easier to drink on its own and doesn’t require milk or sugar but can be
Peppermint - This is always a good option for singers as drinking it can help ease a sore throat, aid digestion, and relieve tension. It is also naturally without caffeine and has a mild to sweet taste that is easily enjoyed at any time of day.
Hibiscus - Coming from the hibiscus/roselle plant, this tea is not only caffeine-free, it is also known to have calming effects. It has a tart taste that some would liken to cranberries. Due to its calming abilities it is often recommended to drink before bedtime.
Chamomile - A white caffeine-free tea that is known for its ability to help reduce inflammation and relax tension. It is often recommended to help with menstrual cramps and sore throats.
Matcha - My only naturally caffeinated tea on the list, Macha’s caffeine levels are lower than a cup of coffee, However, it has much higher caffeine levels than other green teas. Its caffeine is also reported to have longer lasting effects than your average cup of Joe. It can be a great alternative for those late night rehearsals or those early morning church gigs.
