SAD? (Seasonal Affective Disorder) - Sing!
As January continues to wind on and on, those of us who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder are needing more ways to help boost our mental health. Singing has been proven to bring many benefits for one’s mental well being. Not only can singing allow for a healthy outlet for deep emotions, the physical act of singing has been connected with raising a person’s endorphin and oxytocin levels naturally. This has been shown to be even more true when singing with another person or in a group. Why not try? Give singing a chance. Sing in the shower. Sing in the car. Join a choir. Take a singing lesson. So here is a little clip of me singing one of my favorite Gospel Hymns by lyricist Civilla D. Martin and composer Charles H. Gabriel, “His Eye Is on the Sparrow.” Taking the time to sing for myself today really made a big difference in my mental outlook as I began this last week of January.
“I sing because I’m happy [and] I sing because I’m free.” -Civilla D. Martin
