Permission to Make Mistake
Singers are often perfectionists. We want to always perform at our very best. This mentality can be good for performances, but it's not something that actually helps during lessons. I ask my students to forget trying to be perfect, forget doing everything just right. Lessons are for learning and in order to learn we need to be able to let go and take risks. In fact, I believe that, in order to learn, we need to make mistakes. Each mistake is an opportunity to learn something new. So I tell students they have my permission to make any and all mistakes. Let’s take a chance and see what we can learn together!
